Against Gravity
Identity, change and people are the key elements of the exhibition Against Gravityshowing photography works by eight emerging Ethiopian photographers: Abdi Bekele,Addis Aemero, Bemnet Fekadu, Brook Getachew, Firehiwot Gebrealu, Meseret Argaw,Obsa Zerihun and Solomon Nigus.
The exhibition is an output of a mentorship program led by Michael Tsegaye, anestablished Ethiopian photographer based in Addis Ababa. Through the program,photographers were supported with an individual, group and peer to peer meetings inaddition to the provision of critical reference materials. With the help of discussions,presentations, and critiques sessions, photographers explored the theme of identity,urban spaces, urban change, tradition and movement through different documentaryand conceptual approaches involving self portraits, street seen, interiors, cityscapes etc..
Against Gravity showcases a collection of images presented through installations, videoand frames discussing and questioning the past, the present and the future of the cityand the country in general.
